McFadden Digital
Control Loader Upgrade
Servos & Simulation recently upgraded the digital computer
and interface system to a McFadden Hydraulic Loader. The process involves
removing the digital computer and interface box and replacing it with our
Digital Control Loader and Interface Unit design specifically for this job.
The new controller is all digital. There are NO
POTS. All variables in the flight control model are floating point in
engineering units. The flight control model is written in Borland C++.
The balancing of the force transducers is done automatically by software. The
first replacement controller was installed on March 2001 and has performed
flawlessly.
The upgrade process is simple and effective. Included in the upgrade is:
1. A New Digital Control Computer - This
is our standard system. We can operate up to five axis with this system. This
system cables directly to the Interface Unit.

2. A New Interface Unit - This allows our
system to interface with the McFadden loaders. The original cabling for the
McFadden loaders interface directly to this box.

3. One Replacement Cable between the S/S/I box and
the Interface Unit. Connector change is required, but the connector
number remains unchanged.
We have produced a fully updated COTS manual that
incorporates the old McFadden COTS manual and our standard COTS manual into one
book. There are some drawing revisions that are part of the package, but all of
the remaining original cables in the system integrate directly to our system.
Governmental revisions to the system have been kept to a minimum.
